6 Beers Responsible for Increase of Alcohol Consumption in India

No matter if the Sensex goes down or the rate of dollar per rupee touches the sky, alcohol consumption in India is one thing that has been steadily increasing year by year. Of all the spirits sold in the Indian market, beer is one of the most favoured soft alcoholic drink in the country. For be it a birthday party, a social event, a grand wedding celebration or as simple as a family get-together, there’s a beer for every occasion. The revolution is such that there are a mammoth of microbreweries functioning in the nation today that are making the best of beers, which when tasted will leave you highly tantalized and deeply in love with the beverage type.

Kingfisher
Kingfisher – The King of Good Times, despite immense internal turbulences, stands out in the liquor market and is one of the most sold beers in India. It also bags the position of being the most exported beer from India. Kingfisher has been in the market since 1978 and has led the pack ever since. Some variants of Kingfisher beer you can’t afford to miss include Kingfisher Premium, Kingfisher Red, Kingfisher Blue, Kingfisher Strong, Kingfisher Ultra and Kingfisher Draught.

Foster’s
An Australian cajole, Foster’s is the second most preferred beer in India. Owned by SABMiller Group in India, the brand was launched in the late 90s in India. Foster’s is easily available at all liquor shops and at pubs and restro-bars. Special variants worth tasting include Fosters Premium and Fosters strong.

Miller
Another of SABMiller’s owned beer brands in India, it is increasingly becoming popular amid the youth of the country. It’s giving a tough competition to Foster’s in terms of both taste and price. Miller is crisp, light and very refreshing. The beer was introduced recently and is one of the fasted selling international beer brands too. Its variants include Miller Ace and Miller High Life.

Haywards
Third in the row, Haywards too is a beer brand proudly owned by the liquor giant SABMiller. It’s definitely a beer that takes us back to our college days. Haywards’ strong, crisp and out-of-the-box taste made it the most favoured beer brand back in the late 90s. It has had the record of significantly contributing to the increase in the alcohol consumption in India. Today, its two variants have created a sensation in the market – Haywards 5000 and Haywards 10000.

Godfather
The strongest of the strong beers, Godfather indeed does justice to its name. Super strong in taste, Godfather overweighs all other beer brands in India. However, looking at the demand for light beer, the brand added Godfather Light to its fleet of beers.  Light malty aroma along with a mildly sweet taste accompanies by a subtle flavour, it’s widely famous in the northern part of India.

Budweiser

A Belgian – Brazilian beer, Budweiser has a won the heart of millions across the nation. The beer type is most known for its exotic flavour and easily available in all parts of the country. Available in two varieties – Budweiser Premium and Budweiser Magnum.
